While attending the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) conference in San Diego last October I learned about the necessity of removing toxins from everything that goes into and onto our children. One thing I had never really thought about was our water. We have been using the filter attached to the refrigerator to filter our water. I used the filtered water when I cooked and I really thought I was doing a good thing. But while in San Diego I learned that there are a lot of things in our water that just don’t get filtered out. Chlorine is one of them and chlorine is bleach. I don’t want to drink bleach, do you?

Recently I found out about a pitcher filtration system that really intrigued me. It is called Zero Water because it will remove Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) from your water, leaving you with Zero TDS in your drinking Water. Some of the substances it can remove from your water (this does not mean your water has all of these substance, but if it does, these substances will be removed. You are recommended to have your water supply tested to determine your actual water treatment needs.) are Chromium, Tri and Hexavelent, pH 6.5, Chromium, Tri and Hexavelent, pH 8.5, Lead, pH 6.5, Lead, pH 8.5, Mercury, pH 6.5, Mercury, pH 8.5, Chlorine, Hydrogen Sulfide, Iron, Zinc and Aluminum. Wow!

Each Zero Water pitcher comes with its own TDS meter; this way you can test your water to make sure it really is Zero Water. I decided to test our tap water, our refrigerator filtered water and the water from Zero Water. The water directly from our tap registered 124 TDS PPM, that is, the meter found 124 total dissolved solids in one part per million in our direct tap water. It does not tell me what those dissolved solids were but there were too many for my liking. Then I tested the water filtered through the refrigerator’s filtration system, with the results of 116. Not much better and I had been really relying on this filter to help clean our water. Finally, I used the pitcher and got a reading of 000! The meter detected Zero TDS in the Zero Water filtered water. That is amazing and I think really significant. One of Matthew’s toxicity tests showed that he had high levels of Lead, Mercury and Aluminum and we had no idea how he was getting these substances. I guess we could have been giving it to him every time I used water. How frightening.

The pitcher itself is quite easy to use. Once you wash it and install the filter you simply fill the reservoir and allow the water to run through the filter. You do need to do this about twice to get a full pitcher, but I didn’t mind when I saw how much junk it was removing from our drinking water. And the pitcher has a really ingenious and yet simple feature which I love. It has a push button in-fridge dispenser at the bottom of the pitcher, much like a drink cooler would have. This way you don’t have to pull the pitcher out of the fridge to get water out. I think that is a great little addition.

Would you like to win a Zero Water Pitcher for your family? Simply head over to Zero Water and take a look around. Come back and leave me a message telling me something you learned about Zero Water and how it might effect your family. Remember to leave your email address or make sure it is visible on your blog. Right smack dab in the middle of the homepage it tells you that it's "the ONLY filtered water that meets FDA definition for purified bottled water" - makes me wonder if filling up my Brita pitcher all the time is worth the effort!

We've been buying water from a reverse osmosis store because I couldn't find a pitcher system that filtered enough crap out. And I learned that it's the only filtered water system that meets the FDA definition for purified bottled water and the system appears to be forty bucks plus shipping. How would it affect my family? It would safe some money and some trips to the reverse osmosis store! I hope I win!

And I blogged about it, too!

"It is essential to change the filters with a reading of "006" on the included TDS meter in order for the product to continue to perform as represented. The longevity of the filter may vary based on local water conditions. Under laboratory protocols, a single filter was rated for 22.5 gallons in the certification process. The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by this water treatment device are not necessarily in all users' water."

Which essentially means Your Mileage May Vary. 22 gallons doesn't seem like a lot for a filter... but I guess you can't put a price on clean water!

Unlike conventional gravity-fed water filters, ZeroWater’s patented 5-stage ion-exchange filter delivers the only filtered water to measure absolute 000 on the TDS meter. Compare that to the levels you’ll find in other filtered waters, most bottled waters and plain unfiltered tap water—all of which contain measurable amounts of dissolved substances. Meter readings for tap water average between 75 and 300. Conventional filtered water measures between 030-500, and bottle water between 000-350.

We dumped sodas last year and were feeling pretty good about drinking only water, juices and milk. Now this thing comes along and basicly tells me that my water is poisonous too, eh? I'd be interested to try this out on my tap water and fridge filter too! Not to mention I'd be curious to try it out on bottled water too. Thanks for the interesting and somewhat troubling giveaway.

I learned: Not only do our patented 5-stage Ion Exchange filters deliver the best-tasting filtered water available, they’re also recyclable. In fact, Zero Technologies, LLC is proud to be the only major company that recycles gravity filter cartridges from U.S. customers. Just send them back and we’ll separate each filter. The plastic as well as the materials inside it will be sent to various facilities for reuse.

it has zero eco impact. not only do their filters produce the best-tasting water available, but they are recyclable too.

ZeroWater® filters have multiple components designed to provide very comprehensive filtration. The ZeroWater® Filter Pitcher (ZP-001) and ZeroWater® filters (ZF-201) have been tested and certified by the following independent organizations against the relevant standard for reduction of these substances:
Lead NSF International 53
Chromium NSF International 53
Mercury NSF International 53
Hydrogen Sulfide NSF International 42
Chlorine Taste and Odor NSF International 42
Iron WQA 42
Zinc WQA 42
Aluminum WQA N/A

i think my family would love this we buy bottled water all the time

After seeing so many ads for other products I was surprised to see that Zero Water is the only filtered water system that meets the FDA definition for purified water.

From heading over to Zero Water I learned "Unlike conventional gravity-fed water filters, ZeroWater’s patented 5-stage ion-exchange filter delivers the only filtered water to measure absolute 000 on the TDS meter. Compare that to the levels you’ll find in other filtered waters, most bottled waters and plain unfiltered tap water—all of which contain measurable amounts of dissolved substances. Meter readings for tap water average between 75 and 300. Conventional filtered water measures between 030-500, and bottle water between 000-350."

I want to achieve 2 things with having this wonderful pitcher in our home, I want to provide my family of 5 and our guests with the safest, purest, healthiest water as possible, and I want to have the best reason in the world never to use bottled water again. Be kind to our bodies, be kind to the environment, now how cool is that?!

Thank you so much for the chance to enter.

Target and Walgreens has ZeroWater filtering pitcher.
There has been Atrazine in our water. Atrazine, 2-chloro-4-(ethylamine)-6- -s-triazine, an organic compound consisting of an s-triazine-ring is a widely used herbicide.

I found out that Meter readings for tap water average between 75 and 300. Conventional filtered water measures between 030-500, and bottle water between 000-350. We purchase a lot of bottled water and it's so much more economical to just use a filter.

ZeroWater® is the best tasting water because of the 5 stage process to filter tap water :)
